I chose to stretch my ears as a rite of passage. Same with my tattoos and other piercings. To me, they have cultural significance, because body modification is a culture. It has its own traditions, its own ways, and its a movement that has changed with the times.

It’s about taking control of your body, it’s about looking how you feel happy.

It isn’t a fad. It’s taking back something that was taken by society and (in my opinion) religion, in some cases, took away. It’s about honoring how you feel and looking how you want to. So fuck you naysayers who say it’s a fad. This is my culture, my life, something that’s near and dear to my heart. It’s something that every culture on earth has practiced at one time or another. No matter where you come from, at some point in your peoples’ history, there is body modification.

I’ve been stretching my ears since I was 18.
I did it because it made me happy, and gave me control over my body.
I have close to 20 piercings, 2 tattoos with a 3rd in the works, and no - none of them were because of something as stupid as a fad.
I got my piercings because when I look at my face now, I feel more complete than I did without them; because they belong there; because they were supposed to happen.
I got my tattoos because they mean something so precious to me, but I wont impart that meaning to you since I know it would be lost.
It isn’t a pain thing - I hate pain; I hate hurting.
Its something almost indescribable to me, and I have neither the time or patience to waste on someone as ignorant as you.
